Local City and County Meetings this Week

 Whatcom County Council Public Hearings
(1) Fee Increases: Tonight, Tuesday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Whatcom County Council will be holding its public hearing on the proposed Whatcom County Planning and Development and Public Works Unified Fee Schedule increases. As you will remember, some of these fees will double or even triple. BIAWC’s testify with concerns about these fee increases, and will be testifying at the public hearing tomorrow night. However, nothing can compare to the voices of real people!

(2) Whatcom County Shoreline Management Program Update public hearing: The time is finally here! Also tonight, Tuesday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Whatcom County Council will be holding its public hearing on Whatcom County’s Shoreline Management Program update.

Whatcom County Council Committee Meetings
Tonight there are a host of Whatcom County Council Committee meetings!

(1) Natural Resources Committee, Tuesday, February 27th at 9:00 a.m., Council Chambers: There are many items in front of this Council Committee! The first is a Resolution supporting the Whatcom County Shoreline Management Program Update-Restoration Plan (this plan is seeking collaborative, non-regulatory, voluntary restoration of shorelines with the cooperation of property owners).

The other item is a Resolution initiating some of the proposed 2007 Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Amendments. Docket #2007-Q, proposes various text amendments related to the Lake Whatcom Watershed. However, due to the length of this agenda, and the fact that this is the last item on the list, it is not clear if the Committee will be able to discuss this item.

(2) Public Works Committee, Tuesday, February 27th at 1:30 p.m., Council Chambers: The Public Works Committee will be meting to discuss several docket items, including Docket #2007-F on Concurrency Management, and Docket #2007-O: Fire Protection and EMS in the Birch Bay UGA.

(3) Planning and Development Committee, Tuesday, February 27th at 3:00 p.m. Council Chambers: There will be two discussions, one regarding concurrency management/school impact fees, and the other regarding Bellingham’s Urban Fringe Subarea Plan.
